How might naturopathy benefit me?

Naturopathy has long held a wealth of benefits to people and pets throughout history and around the globe.  Naturopathy is gentle, noninvasive and with minimal risk for side effects.

Naturopaths strive to help educate people in matters of natural health and preventative medicine so others may be empowered to walk in health and wellness.

Naturopaths seek to not only address concerns of the physical body but take the whole person, including emotional and spiritual aspects, into account in order to aid the individual in removing hindrances to healing.  The objective of the Naturopath is to nurture the body's abillity to heal itself.

In this, the Naturopath serves as an aid in helping the individual improve the various processes that work together synergistically to facilitate whole person wellness, encompassing enhanced physical wellbeing and an increased capacity to enjoy life.

How does natural medicine differ conventional or allopathic medicine?

The primary goal of allopathic medical practices is to diagnose and treat a disease through suppression or removal.  In this instance, the patient is a result of the healthcare being offered.

The primary goal of naturopathic medicine is to study and treat a disease process through supporting and strengthening the body’s natural resources.  In doing so, the patient is highly involved and therefore plays a large role in the outcome of the healthcare being offered.

No effort is herein made to persuade any person that one is better than the other.  Both have their strengths and weakness and each can stand to be an asset to the proactive individual looking to attain a more "broad spectrum" care.

It should also be noted that due to legalities and liability, naturopaths, in most states, are not allowed to "diagnose," "treat," or "prescribe" anything.  While recommendations may be made, it is up to the sole discretion of the client to determine which actions he/she will take.

Can I not just ask my doctor about all this natural stuff?

You are always encouraged to consult with your chosen health-care professional regarding any form of treatment, therapy or supplementation, especially if you are already on any medication that may cause an adverse reaction when taken with other drugs, remedies or the like..

With regard to natural remedies, most medical doctors have not been formally trained and therefore have little knowledge in this area as much of their training relates to diagnostics and condition management with prescription drugs, which is why a growing number of people are also pursuing the help of natural health specialists.

It is good to have a doctor who is willing to team up with you in achieving your health goals.  A growing number of physicians are gaining interest in the field of alternative medicine and in natural remedies.  Still, some get annoyed or angry at even the mention of it.  Use discretion and bear in mind, your body belongs to you and you have the right to seek which ever form of treatment you prefer from whomever you choose.

Do you take medical insurance?

Due to the current rules and regulations, naturopaths are unable to file claims on medical insurance.  Therefore, all fees must be rendered prior to service.
